Where to buy Rice Krispie treats cereal?

Rice Krispie Treat cereal, as well as all of the other ingredients for this recipe, can be found at your local grocery store. I picked up all of my ingredients from my local Walmart, but they are all fairly easy to find.

What kind of marshmallows do you use for Rice Krispie treats?

When making Rice Krispie treats, you want to work with mini marshmallows. They are much easier to meltdown with butter.

As for the brand of marshmallows, it depends mostly on personal preference. If you have a preferred brand that you like to work with, I would go with that. But most brands of marshmallows will work splendidly with this recipe.

Can I use full-sized M&Ms?

We recommend using the mini ones. They are easier to eat, and they stick to the Rice Krispies easier. However, if all you have are full-size, that’s okay, too.

Can I use store-brand Rice Krispies?

Absolutely! You can use any brand of crispy rice cereal, and the results should be about the same.

How to Make Mickey Mouse Rice Krispie Treats

  1. Put 3 Tbsp butter and 1 bag of mini marshmallows into a pot on medium heat
  2. Stir butter and marshmallows together until melted
  3. Pour 6 cups of Rice Krispie cereal into melted marshmallows and stir until fully combined
  4. Put a sheet of wax paper onto a cookie sheet, pour cereal and marshmallow mixture onto the cookie sheet. Flatten rice Krispie treats into a single layer with a spoon, then finish flattening with your hands or a rolling pin until the layer is even
  5. Wait 15-20 minutes before cutting out the Mickey Mouse shape with a cookie-cutter, or print out a Mickey Mouse stencil and trace the shape with a knife
  6. While waiting for the Rice Krispie treats to cool, melt the semi-sweet morsels with a little bit of butter in the microwave. Microwave the chocolate in 15-second increments, stirring in between, until smooth
  7. Cut out the Mickey Mouse shapes with your cookie cutter or knife, remove excess from the side and reshape into a flat layer to cut from
  8. Once the Mickey Mouse shapes are cut out, spoon some of the chocolate onto the Rice Krispie treat. You want a decent amount of chocolate on the treats so the m&ms will stick to them, but not too much because it will cause the m&ms to fall off
  9. Once the chocolate is on the Rice Krispie treat, dip the treat into a bowl of mini m&ms, face down, and quickly turn it over and place it on a plate or cooling rack.
  10. Let the chocolate harden for about 10 mins, then place some chocolate in a piping bag or Ziploc bag and drizzle some chocolate over the top for decoration, and to keep the marshmallows in place.
  11. Enjoy!

You want to cut the rice krispie treats once they have mostly cooled. If you cut them too early, they will not keep their shape.

For this recipe, we laid the rice krispies out on a cookie sheet and waited about 15-20 minutes before cutting the Mickey Mouse shapes out.

How long will these Rice Krispies last?

These should last in an air tight container for about one week.

Can I freeze this recipe?

Yes, you can. We recommend putting them in an air tight container and letting them defrost completely before eating.
