How to Make Mickey Mouse Oreos
This recipe is great because we get to combine two of our favorite things in the world – Oreos and Mickey or Minnie Mouse.
This tasty treat is a quick and easy way to bring the family together and have some fun.
How did Oreo cookies get their name?
Oreo cookies were first introduced in 1912 as an Oreo Biscuit, which changed 11 years later to the Oreo Sandwich.
No one is really sure where the name came from, exactly. Some believe that it was taken from the French word for gold, while others think it was named after the Greek word for mountain.
However, some wonder if it is a simple combination of the letters that make up “cream” and “chocolate.”
Which Oreos have the most stuffing?
Typically, you can buy Double Stuff Oreos to get more Oreo cream filling.
For a brief time, they made “The Most Stuff” Oreos. But they were limited edition. Who knows? They may bring them back a couple of times like they have with flavors in the past. We’ll have to wait and see.
What kind of chocolate do you use?
You will need black candy melts or mini Oreos that will not be melted down for the Mickey or Minnie ears.
But, the chocolate that you will melt down will be a bag or two of candy melts. These can be found at baking or crafting stores like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or Joann.
Ingredients
- Oreo cookies
- Candy melts (preferably red – but you can also use white with food coloring until you get your desired color)
- Black candy melts or mini Oreos
- White candy pearls
Instructions
- If you are using black candy melts for the ears, gently push the candy melt into the middle of the cookie on both sides to make a Mickey Mouse shape
- If you are using mini Oreos for the ears, you will want to melt some chocolate and use it as a glue to help the mini Oreos stick to the larger Oreo in the desired shape
- To melt the chocolate, (either for sticking ears on or for dipping), pour some of the candy melts into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 15 second increments, stirring in between, until melted
- Dip the Oreo cookie into the melted chocolate, and lay flat on a cooling rack or a baking sheet lined with wax paper
- While the chocolate on the cookie is still warm, place two candy pearls on the cookie to look like buttons or polka dots
- Wait for the cookies to cool and enjoy!
