The young and the young at heart will adore this dish. Rather than serving chips, queso, and ground beef in traditional nachos, they are replaced with tater tots.
This is an irresistible dish that combines a little bit of crunch with lots of savory flavor that the entire family is sure to enjoy!
Ingredients
- Bag of frozen tater tots
- 2 cans of vegetarian chili
- 1 lb ground beef
- Fritos
- Queso sauce with chilis (I used store bought)
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Green onions, diced
- Sour cream
How many tater tots are in a serving?
Usually, there is about 10 tater tots per serving. This works really well with all of the other ingredients that go into this dish.
Ideally, you want everything to work together. You don’t want one ingredient to overpower another.
Can tater tots be microwaved?
Tater tots can be microwaved, but it isn’t as highly recommended because they don’t get as crispy as they would if you baked, deep-fried, or grilled them.
Which ground beef is best?
When looking for ground beef that you will crumble, you want to look for 80/20 Ground Beef. For hamburger recipes, people will often get 80/20 or 70/30 to add a little more fat, giving the burgers the extra juiciness.
People often consider 80/20 the perfect blend because you have a good lean-to-fat ratio. Beef chuck often hits that ratio, so if you can find it on sale, that is a good one to grab.
Can the tater tots be frozen?
Yes – most bags of tater tots you find will be frozen. To prepare them, just follow the steps on the bag.
Most instructions will have you cover them with foil and warm them in the oven. You can either line baking sheets with foil or use aluminum pans or casserole dishes for heating the tater tots.
