Going to the happiest place on earth? Don’t be left feeling sad with a dead phone battery and no idea what to do! Be sure to read our article to help you prepare ahead of time to make sure you know where to charge your phone at Disneyland!

If you’ve ever been to Disneyland, you know that every moment is filled with excitement, wonder, and a fair share of photo opportunities. Naturally, you’ll want to capture these magical moments with your smartphone.

However, as any avid Disney-goer knows, a day at the park can quickly drain your phone’s battery. I know that I’m constantly taking pictures, using Disney Genie+, or checking our ride photos in the app.

So, the pressing question for many visitors is: Where can I charge my phone at Disneyland?

Fret not, for Disneyland has embraced the digital age, offering various charging options to ensure that your device stays powered up and ready to capture all the enchantment.

Where can I charge my phone at Disneyland?

Charge at Charging Kiosk Stations

Disneyland has got you covered with their charging kiosk stations. For $30, you can pick up one of their charging sticks, and when it runs out, just head to another charging station and trade it in. This is a one-time fee, so you can bring it to every trip.

They include:

One fully charged portable battery

One 3.5” USB to micro-USB cable (for most Android devices)

One USB C Adapter (needed for some Android Devices)

One 3.5″ Apple Lightning to USB cable (for iPhone generations 5+)

I personally don’t think they are the highest quality chargers, but if you want the ultimate convenient option, this might work for you.

You’ll typically find them near restrooms, dining areas, and other high-traffic spots. These charging stations are a handy way to top up your battery while taking a brief break from the magic.

Disneyland App

Disneyland offers its very own app, which is a must-have for navigating the park efficiently. Alongside ride times, maps, and dining options, the app also provides useful information about the location of charging stations.

You can use it to plan your charging breaks strategically, ensuring you’re never too far from a power source when you need it.

Bring Your Own Power Bank

One of the easiest solutions to keep your phone charged throughout the day is to bring your own power bank or portable charger.

Disneyland allows visitors to carry these devices, and you can use them while waiting in line or enjoying a meal. It’s a smart way to ensure your device stays juiced up without needing to find a charging station.

We have used this one for YEARS, and it has ever let us down. It keeps its charge for quite some time, and it has built-in charging cables. It can easily be recharged with a wall outlet. It’s expensive, but it’s bene one of our best purchases.

Outlets throughout the Park

There are actually some outlets available for public use throughout the park. They aren’t heavily advertised, but they are definitely available. This article tracks all of them, so be sure to check that out for more tips.

Guest Services

Don’t hesitate to ask Disneyland’s helpful Guest Services for assistance with your charging needs. They can direct you to the nearest charging station or provide valuable advice for keeping your phone powered up.

Plan Ahead

Lastly, the best way to ensure your phone stays charged is to plan ahead. Start your day with a fully charged device, close any unnecessary background apps, and lower screen brightness to conserve battery life. We always put our phones on low power mode before we get to the park.

Consider using airplane mode when you don’t need a data connection, as this can significantly extend your battery’s lifespan.

Disneyland recognizes the importance of staying connected and capturing memories, so they’ve made it relatively easy to charge your phone within the park. By utilizing charging stations, the Disneyland app, or your own power bank, you can ensure that your device is always ready to capture the magic of this extraordinary place. So, go ahead, snap those pictures, and share the enchantment with the world. Disneyland is waiting, and your phone will be fully charged to make the most of it!

Spending your birthday in the happiest place on earth? Yes, please! Who wouldn’t love to spend their birthday in Disneyland? If this is you- you may be wondering if you can get into Disneyland for free on your birthday– keep reading to find out!

Disneyland, the iconic theme park located in Anaheim, California, is a place where dreams come true. For many Disney enthusiasts, visiting the park on their birthday would be a dream come true as well.

The idea of receiving a special birthday gift in the form of free admission to Disneyland is indeed enticing.

In this article, we’ll explore the history of this tradition, any current offerings, and alternative ways to make your birthday at Disneyland a magical experience.

Book your next magical family adventure through our friends at Get Away Today! They are truly the Disney experts and can make planning your trip a breeze for both Disneyland and Disney World. Make sure you tell them Magical Family Travel Guide sent you or use the code MFTG for $10 off a Southern California

Does Disneyland really offer free entry on your birthday?

Unfortunately for all us Disney lovers- No, Disneyland does NOT give free tickets on your birthday.

The History of Disneyland Birthday Freebies

For years, Disneyland did have a tradition of allowing visitors free entry on their birthdays. This policy was part of the “What Will You Celebrate?” campaign, which ran from 2009 to 2010. During this time, guests could receive a free, single-day admission to Disneyland or Disney California Adventure Park on their actual birthdate.

However, this generous promotion came to an end when the campaign concluded.

It’s essential to check the latest updates on Disneyland’s official website or contact Disney directly to confirm if any new promotions or changes have occurred since then.

Alternative Ways to Celebrate Your Birthday at Disneyland

While free birthday admission may not be available as of my last knowledge update, there are still various ways to make your birthday at Disneyland extra special:

Birthday Buttons

Visit City Hall at Disneyland or the Chamber of Commerce at Disney California Adventure Park to pick up a complimentary “Happy Birthday” button. Wearing this button can lead to cast members and fellow guests wishing you well throughout the day, adding a sprinkle of Disney magic to your celebration.

Character Dining

Consider booking a character dining experience at one of the park’s restaurants. It’s a memorable way to enjoy a special meal while meeting beloved Disney characters and receiving personalized attention on your special day.

Birthday Treats

Disneyland has a reputation for creating delightful treats. On your birthday, indulge in a special dessert or snack from one of the park’s many food stalls, bakeries, or ice cream shops.

Photo Opportunities

Make use of Disneyland’s numerous picturesque settings to capture memories of your special day. Don’t forget to ask photographers for a birthday-themed photo!

While the tradition of free admission to Disneyland on your birthday has ended, the park still offers a plethora of ways to celebrate your special day in true Disney style.

With a “Happy Birthday” button, character interactions, delicious treats, and special packages, you can create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

Remember to check Disneyland’s official website or contact Disney directly for the most up-to-date information on birthday promotions and offerings.

Ultimately, whether or not you receive free entry, Disneyland remains a magical place to celebrate your birthday.

Planning a trip to Disneyland? If you have flexibility in your schedule then you may be wondering what are the best days of the week to go to Disneyland. While you’re sure to have a memorable time no matter what- keep reading to get the answer!

Choosing the best days of the week to visit Disneyland can greatly impact your overall experience at the park. While the popularity of Disneyland means that it can be crowded throughout the year, certain days tend to be more manageable in terms of crowds, wait times, and overall enjoyment.

Planning your visit on the right days can make a significant difference in your ability to explore attractions, enjoy shows, and have a magical time.

In this article, we’ll guide you through the considerations for selecting the optimal days to visit Disneyland and help you make the most of your trip.

Book your next magical family adventure through our friends at Get Away Today!

What are the best days of the week to visit Disneyland?

The best days to visit Disneyland can vary depending on factors like crowd levels, park hours, and special events.

However, some general guidelines can help you choose the optimal days for your visit:

Midweek Days (Tuesday to Thursday)

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are often the least crowded days at Disneyland. Most people visit during weekends or extend their trips to include Mondays and Fridays, leaving the middle of the week relatively quieter. This means shorter wait times for popular rides and a more enjoyable overall experience.

Off-Peak Seasons

Aim for times when schools are in session to avoid the large crowds associated with school vacations and holidays. The months of January, February (except Presidents’ Day weekend), September, and early December usually see lower attendance.

Avoid Holidays and Special Events

Major holidays like Christmas, New Year’s, Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July tend to attract large crowds. Additionally, during certain events like Halloween and Christmas celebrations, the parks can be busier due to their unique offerings.

Check Crowd Calendars

Many online resources provide crowd calendars that predict attendance levels at Disneyland on specific days. These calendars take into account historical data and trends to help you plan your visit during quieter times.

Consider Weather

Southern California generally enjoys mild weather, but rain can sometimes deter crowds. If rain is forecasted, you might experience shorter wait times for attractions.

Rope Drop and Park Hopping

Arriving at park opening (rope drop) allows you to experience popular attractions with shorter wait times before the crowds arrive. Additionally, with the Park Hopper ticket option, you can start your day in one park and then switch to the other once it gets busier.

Use Disney Genie Plus

Use Disney Genie Plus to reserve access to select attractions, minimizing your time spent waiting in line.

Remember that even on the best days, Disneyland can still have some level of crowd activity.

Planning ahead, arriving early, and use resources like Disney Genie Plus can help you make the most of your visit, no matter when you decide to go.

While most cruise lines don’t have an age limit, some just aren’t going to be that toddler-friendly.

If you are taking your toddler on a cruise, you want to make sure it’s with a line where toddlers are welcome and accommodated.

The last thing you want to worry about is having kids that are disturbing other cruisers and don’t have anywhere to go.

We have gone on a few cruises with our toddlers and have done considerable research into the best cruise lines for toddlers. Here is what we think!

We book all our cruises through Get Away Today! They offer some of the best customer services around and will certainly make it easier to book your upcoming cruise!

Carnival Cruise Line

This was the first cruise we went on. The main reason we chose it was that they allowed children that were 2 and over to go to the childcare programs for free. Most cruises charge for children under three.

We were also impressed with not just the kid’s programs but additional events and activities on the cruise that were great for young children.

Carnival is a budget cruise line, which does tend to attract more of the “party” crowd – so I wouldn’t say everything is entirely family-friendly. But we had a good time on our cruise and didn’t run into any issues.

Here are some of the highlights of a Carnival cruise for toddlers:

Camp Ocean Kids Program:

Carnival Cruise Line offers the Camp Ocean Kids Program, which provides a wide range of age-appropriate activities and entertainment for children, including toddlers. Trained staff members engage toddlers in supervised playtime, arts and crafts, games, and interactive programs designed to keep them entertained and engaged throughout the cruise.

Seuss at Sea Program:

Carnival has partnered with Dr. Seuss to create the Seuss at Sea program, which includes various activities and events for young children, including toddlers. This program features character parades, story time sessions, and themed activities inspired by Dr. Seuss books, providing a fun and immersive experience for toddlers onboard.

When we went, they had a Dr. Seuss breakfast for just $5 extra per person, and it was the highlight of our trip! I have no idea what the cost is now, but it truly is fantastic.

Water Parks and Splash Zones:

Many Carnival ships feature water parks and splash zones that are perfect for toddlers. These areas typically include water slides, fountains, and interactive play structures designed with young children in mind. Toddlers can splash around and have a great time while enjoying the refreshing water activities onboard.

Keep in mind that your child does need to be toilet trained in order to be able to participate in water activities.

Seaside Theater

Carnival’s Seaside Theater is an outdoor movie screen located by the pool area. It often shows family-friendly movies and cartoons throughout the day and evening. Toddlers can enjoy watching their favorite characters on the big screen while lounging by the pool or in a comfortable seating area with their parents.

You can usually find the movies that are playing in your cruise guide in the mobile app.

Family-Friendly Dining Options:

Carnival Cruise Line offers a variety of dining options suitable for families with toddlers. They typically provide kid-friendly menus, high chairs, and boosters to accommodate young children. The flexible dining options and casual atmosphere make it easier for families to enjoy meals together while catering to the needs of their little ones.

We used the flexible dining time option. It was the only option available when we booked, but it ended up being a great option with a napping toddler.

There are tons of delicious items, and the crew is always willing to accommodate any requests!

Disney Cruise Lines

Disney is inherently pretty kid-friendly, it’s a great option for the whole family. We went on a Disney Cruise earlier this year, and we took our barely 3-year-old. It was amazing! If you are looking for a truly family-friendly option that everyone will enjoy, look no further than the Disney Cruise Line.

Here are some of the benefits:

Disney-themed Entertainment and Activities

Disney Cruise Line is known for its immersive and magical experiences for guests of all ages, including toddlers. Onboard, toddlers can meet and interact with their favorite Disney characters, attend live shows and musicals featuring beloved Disney stories, and participate in themed parties and parades designed specifically for young children.

Our three-year-old absolutely loved seeing his favorite characters at every turn. Because Disney Cruise Line is so family-oriented, no one was annoyed or frustrated at toddlers being at all the events.

It’s a Small World Nursery

Disney Cruise Line offers the It’s a Small World Nursery, which provides care and entertainment for children aged 6 months to 3 years. The nursery is staffed by trained childcare professionals who ensure a safe and engaging environment for toddlers. Activities may include storytelling, arts and crafts, music, and playtime with age-appropriate toys.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club:

The Oceaneer Club is a dedicated play area onboard Disney Cruise Line ships designed for children, including toddlers. This interactive space offers a variety of themed play areas based on Disney characters and movies, allowing toddlers to engage in imaginative play, arts and crafts, and group activities. The club is supervised by trained counselors who ensure the safety and enjoyment of all children.

Our son really enjoyed being able to roam free in this area. There was always something fun going on, and the staff was very attentive. I was very pleased with the security of the area as well.

Fun Pools and Splash Areas

Disney Cruise Line features fun pools and splash areas suitable for toddlers. These areas often include shallow pools, fountains, and water play features designed with young children in mind. Toddlers can enjoy splashing and playing in the water while supervised by their parents.

While the pools did require children to be potty trained, they had a splash area that did not – all it required was a swim diaper.

Family-Friendly Dining Options:

Disney Cruise Line offers family-friendly dining options that cater to the needs of toddlers. They provide kid-friendly menus, high chairs, and boosters to ensure a comfortable dining experience for families. Additionally, Disney characters may make appearances during meals, creating a memorable and magical atmosphere for young children.

Disney Cruise Line is known for its exceptional attention to detail and commitment to providing a family-friendly experience. They offer a range of services and amenities specifically tailored to toddlers, ensuring that they have a memorable and enjoyable time onboard. Please note that specific offerings may vary by ship and itinerary, so it’s advisable to check the Disney Cruise Line website or contact their customer service for the most accurate and up-to-date information on toddler-friendly services and activities.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line

I haven’t been on a Royal Caribbean Cruise (yet!), but from what I’ve heard, it’s great for families with children of all ages. This would be a great option if you have teenagers as well as a toddler.

Family-Friendly Amenities:

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line offers a wide range of family-friendly amenities specifically designed to cater to the needs of toddlers and their parents. These amenities may include dedicated play areas, splash pools, age-appropriate activities, and interactive programs that engage and entertain young children.

Complimentary Adventure Ocean Youth Program:

Royal Caribbean’s Adventure Ocean Youth Program is a complimentary onboard program that provides age-appropriate activities and entertainment for children of all ages, including toddlers. The program offers supervised playtime, arts and crafts, music and dancing, and interactive games, allowing parents to have some time for themselves while knowing that their toddlers are in safe hands.

Nursery Services:

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line offers nursery services for toddlers aged 6 months to 36 months. These nurseries provide a safe and supervised environment for toddlers, allowing parents to have some adult time or enjoy other activities on the ship. Trained staff members ensure that toddlers are engaged in age-appropriate activities and are well taken care of.

Family-Friendly Shore Excursions:

Royal Caribbean offers a variety of family-friendly shore excursions that can be enjoyed by toddlers and their parents. These excursions may include beach visits, wildlife encounters, cultural experiences, and more. The cruise line takes into consideration the needs of families with young children, providing options that are suitable for toddlers and ensuring a memorable vacation experience for the whole family.

Flexible Dining Options:

Royal Caribbean understands the challenges of dining with toddlers and offers flexible dining options to accommodate families. They provide early seating times and kid-friendly menus, as well as high chairs and boosters for little ones. The staff is often accommodating and understanding of the needs of families with toddlers, making mealtime enjoyable and stress-free.

Please note that specific offerings and amenities may vary depending on the ship and itinerary, so it’s always recommended to check the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line website or contact their customer service for the most up-to-date information on toddler-friendly services and activities.

I often see Royal Caribbean having a “Kids Sail Free” promotion, which can make it even more affordable to cruise with them.

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these cruise lines – it really just comes down to your budget, interests, and priorities. There is bound to be many other toddlers on any cruise ship from these places, so your child is sure to make some new friends! Let me know in the comments what YOU think!

Not sure what to pack for your toddler for your upcoming cruise? Here is our ultimate cruise packing list for toddlers that we’ve developed after taking our toddlers on cruises!

Packing for a cruise can be a challenge for anyone.

Throw in a toddler? It can get even more complicated.

We have gone on several cruises with toddlers, and there are a few things we are glad we brought (and things we wish we had brought!)

This list continues the ultimate toddler cruise packing list. Be sure to check with your specific cruise line for additional items that might be necessary

Be sure to check out our list of what we wish we packed for our first cruise!

What do Kids Need to Get on a Cruise Ship

In general, children 17 years age and under will need a passport, birth certificate, or government-issued photo ID and children 16 and under who don’t have a passport or photo ID will need a copy of their birth certificate.

If you are going anywhere out of your country of origin – even if it departs and comes back to the same location – I would strongly recommend having a passport.

Equipment

You can typically have them take all your luggage and equipment to your room. Just don’t go too overboard!

Umbrella stroller – I wouldn’t send this with your luggage to your room. The cruise boarding lines can take a long time and having a stroller can be really helpful! We always have room somewhere in our cabin to store a stroller (usually in one of the closest)

Baby/Toddler carrier – this can be a great alternative to a stroller if you don’t want to bring one. I recommend it even if you do bring a stroller – it can be easier to carry them around! Here is a list of our favorite baby carriers – many of which are compatible with toddlers!

Pack and Play (check with the cruise line first and see if they have portable cribs available)

Clothes

The clothes you will need will vary depending on the cruise you are going on, the time of year, and the weather. Make sure to pay attention to the weather report leading up to your cruise and be prepared for the unexpected.

Be sure to check out your cruise lines itinerary for any special events, such as a pirate night or formal dining night. This article is really helpful as well – Cruise Clothing 101: What to Wear on Your Cruise!

Warm Weather Cruise

Swimming suit – I highly recommend a Rash guard swimming suit – so much easier than putting sunscreen all over your kiddo’s body (and having to reapply constantly)

Shorts

T-Shirts (long and short sleeve)

Sandals – we were so dumb and forget to bring sandals! One day on the beach in his tennis shoes, and they were soaking wet and full of sand. My FAVORITE shoes for toddlers are these Fisherman Sandals from Stride Rite. They are breathable, sturdy, and waterproof.

Tennis shoes

Swimming robe

Sun hats

Cold Weather Cruise

Long-sleeved shirts and sweatshirts

Pants

Leggings for layering

Coat

Boots

Close-toed shoes

Warm hats

All Cruises

Plenty of extra clothes

Jacket with hood

Poncho

Socks

Sunglasses

A life jacket or puddle jumper

Underwear (if potty trained)

Toiletries

Toiletries are always super expensive on a cruise ship and at most ports. Make sure you double-check your bag for all of these!

Plenty of diapers, wipes, etc. (these aren’t always available in cruise stores, and if they are, they are super expensive). When we travel, I typically buy diapers when we get there (if we fly), just so we save room in our suitcase. Stop by Walmart or Target on your way to the port!

Infant/Toddler safe medications (Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Benadryl etc.)

Kid’s Seabands and other sea sickness medication/remedies

Bug spray

Kid-safe sunscreen – we like to spray sunscreen for the body and stick sunscreen for the face.

Kid-friendly shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (travel-size would be ideal!)

Food/Consumables

There is plenty of food available pretty much 24/7 on a cruise, but we all know toddlers aren’t always the most convenient diners. Here are a few items you may still want to bring.

Favorite snacks (especially if you have a toddler who is more particular)

Formula or Baby Food – if they are still consuming either of these. Generally, you won’t find them available on the ship.

Other Helpful Items

Since we got our pop-up trailer, we decided we should go take it out for a spin before we rented it out through RV Share. We thought it would be a good opportunity to see what needs to be fixed, take some great pictures, and most of all, enjoy some time together as a family.

We saw an advertisement for a BOGO deal at an RV resort about an hour and a half from our home called the River Run RV Resort. The dates worked out for us, so we decided to book a couple of nights there.

We’ve never stayed at any type of RV resort, so we knew it would be a fun adventure, especially for our boys. I’d read mixed reviews about this place on Google, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

While there were some blips in the road, overall, it was a very comfortable and fun experience. They offer camping, glamping, cabins, and, you guessed it – places to park your RV and pop-up trailers!

River Run RV Resort Granby Overview

The River Run RV Resort is great location for your next RVing adventure. They have tons of amenities and ways to enjoy the great outdoors – from concrete RV Pads to cabins and glamping vehicles – there really was something for everyone.

It is located super close to Rocky Mountain National Park and Granby, so if you want to venture out, you have some great places to go.

They are definitely more of an upscale RV resort and can accommodate any size RV or towable unit. The average site is about 70 feet in length, which provides plenty of room for your rig and to relax and enjoy the views of the surrounding land as you unwind from your day of adventure.

The RV pads all have full hook-ups, which is really convenient. We found the staff to be really helpful as well pulled in, and they seemed really invested in helping us get settled.

At the resort you will find manicured lawns and lowers…and plenty of great views to take in while taking a relaxing walk around our park or swim in their zero-entry pool. They also have a great lake that you can walk around.

They have activities and restaurants, and it’s really a very fun place to come with your family while enjoying your RV (or cabin!)

River Run RV Resort Amenities and Activities

River Run RV Resort offers a variety of amenities and activities. Whether you just want to park your rig, cook food outside, and enjoy visiting at your site, or you want some more structured fun, they have something for everyone.

– They have an outdoor pool with a zero-entry design (great for the kids or adults who enjoy a pool). They also have multiple hot tubs, which we all really enjoyed. I love that you can see such great views while swimming.

– They have lots of outdoor games set up and ready to go – Horseshoes and Bocce Ball are just a few

– Wi-Fi – Complimentary! I found it got a little slow at nights, but overall, it worked pretty well!

– Full-Service Laundry Facilities onsite

– Nice, well-kept bathrooms and showers

– Great park for the kiddos to play at, including a giant jumping pad

– Pickleball courts! We LOVE pickleball, so this was really fun to find this.

– Gas firepits throughout the resort that anyone can use. This was nice, because restrictions made it so we couldn’t use our own fire pit. Only sites with gas fire pits could start a fire, so I was glad there were public use rooms.

– An arcade room for the kids and teens (and adults who love that type of thing).

– Mini bowling – our family LOVED this! It was seriously so much fun. It’s an extra cost, but we felt like it was worth it.

– A store that is fully stocked with beverages and snacks so you don’t have to run out or leave the resort.

There are also several activities near our resort such as fishing ponds, hiking trails, and horseback riding (equestrian trails).

Our Favorites

The Pool – we really enjoyed the pool that they had. It was zero entry, which made it great for our youngest child. But it also had some deeper ends. It was kind of cold, but it was really fun to swim around in. They also had multiple hot tubs, which was probably a good thing because there were a lot of people using them!

Mini Bowling – I think this was our number one activity while at the River Run Resort. I wish we could have played more! I do wish it was included with yours tay, but it’s definitely worth playing at least once. I think I liked it more than regular bowling!

The Pizza – We got some pizza from The Headwaters Tavern, and I can’t even tell you how much I enjoyed it. I was really hungry at the time, but I felt like it was one of the best pizzas I have had in awhile. The service was a little mediocre, but the pizza was delicious.

Pickleball Courts – We love Pickleball, need I say more!? They had a couple of courts that were well-maintained and fun to play one.

Playgrounds for the Kids – Our kids loved this! There was a giant jumping pad and some great playground equipment to romp around on.

The ambiance – The whole resort was just really pleasant to be at. It was a very relaxed, chill environment. All the other guests were SO friendly and helpful, which helped as well.

Location of River Run RV Resort in Granby Colorado

River Run RV Resort is located at 1051 Summit Trail, Granby, CO 80446. . They are just very close to Rocky Mountain National Park and lots of other adventures throughout Colorado.

River Run Resort Pricing

Our RV Pad was around $80 a night, however, we took advantage of a sale they had going on at the time where it was buy one night, get one free. It was only valid during the week, so we did miss out on some of the more fun activities they have on the weekends.

They are always offering different promotions, so make sure you check out their website to see if you can grab a deal, too.

River Run RV Resort Review – Pros and Cons

PROS

The resort has a great location with lots of amenities

There are many activities and entertainment available for guests

Campers can enjoy the beautiful scenery that surrounds the campground

Guests have access to clean restrooms and showers as well as laundry facilities

Close to great hiking and other amenities

The other campers and RVers were truly some of the nicest people I’ve ever met

Nice, large spots that are easy to pull into

Very clean

There are plenty of activities and attractions near the campgrounds such as fishing ponds, hiking trails, horseback riding trails as well as a park for the kids.

CONS

Not many grocery stores nearby – they did have a King

It can be a a bit expensive, especially for a long term stay. I suspect they offer deals for longer term RVers

We couldn’t use the fire pit at our camp spot due to fire regulations, and they didn’t have gas fire pits at all the RV spots

The staff was hit or miss. Some of them were really great while others seemed a bit distracted, bored, or just not super well trained.

Overall, we had a great time at the River Run RV Resort. We’ll definitely be going back again sometime!

We recently tried out RVshare for the first time – and it was quite the experience! If you are looking for an RVshare review, here is an experience from a family of five – along with 17 things to consider when renting an RV.

Over the past few years, RV living and traveling has become really popular in the United States. Rather than buying their own RV, many individuals have turned to a rental service to help with their trips. We recently tried out one of the most popular rental options – RVShare. In this post, I share a bunch of things I wish I’d known and what I learned through my RVShare experience.

Growing up, I was always a little jealous when we saw an RV on trips. It seemed like such a fun and convenient way to travel!

Apparently, my kids have felt the same way and last year, they started talking about RVs constantly. They just seemed so enamored by the idea of SLEEPING in the same place you drove in!

With the pandemic, an RV seemed even more appealing, and we started looking into the possibility of using one. Buying one didn’t seem like a good first step, so when I heard about RVShare – a company where you can rent RVs from other people (think an Airbnb for RVs), I knew we had to try it out.

We just got back from our first RV trip through Yellowstone, and it was quite the adventure. My kids are totally hooked on traveling via RV, and I have to admit, I’m starting to look into the possibility of getting, at least, a pop-up trailer someday!

If you are like us and think you want to take an RV for a spin for a family vacation, you’re in the right place. We learned a few things along the way, and I thought it would be helpful for anyone that is thinking of using RVShare for the first time!

What is RVShare

First off, you might wonder – what is RVShare?

RVShare is essential a rental marketplace where you can rent RVs of all types – they are put on their mainly by private owners, though I have seen a few rental companies with their RVs on the (I find they are the most stingy with what’s included!) By and large, it’s a great peer RV rentals service.

There are options for just about every price range and area. You can find RVShare that people are willing to deliver to you, ones right outside National Parks, and ones that you can take for daily trips or for a month

It’s basically like renting a vacation rental – but a mobile version. It’s a great way to use an RV without actually buying one – or to test the waters to see if it’s something you want to invest in.

It’s also a great way for RV owners to make a little bit of extra money from their RV, since they most likely have it parked in their drive way most of the time!

The RVShare platform is fairly easy to navigate, though I do recommend using it on a laptop or desktop. The mobile site works fine, but I just found it easier to work and find what I was looking for on the website.

why an RV?

hotel rooms

What kind of RV experience is good for you

There are a lot of different RVs, trailers, and pop-ups – it can be a little overwhelming.

For our family, there were two main options – a drivable motorhome or a pop-up trailer. We have a Honda Odyssey, and it can only haul about 3000 lbs – basically, just a pop up trailer. We wanted to experience the full RV life for a bit, so we opted for a drivable motorhome.

This came with added things to keep in mind (such as a limit on how much we could drive), but I felt like it was a good way to experience all things RV.

If you have a vehicle that can haul more weight, you will have more options that aren’t as tied down to the mileage you can go. You really have to know what will work best with your vehicle!

There are a variety of different types of RVs – motorhomes, which are driveable, and towables, which can be travel trailers, pop-ups, fifth wheels, etc.

For the drivable ones, there are Class A, Class B, and Class C. We only looked at Class C vehicles, because these were most similar to driving a van or truck. Class A is like driving a bus, which we weren’t wanting to do!

Class A Motorhomes: The driver should be comfortable driving something as large as a bus

Class B Motorhomes: Comparable to driving and maneuvering an oversized van

Class C Motorhomes: Comparable to driving a truck and a popular option for beginner RV drivers

One thing that I think would be nice about having a 5th wheel or trailer that you pull is that you can leave it behind at your campsite. We left our vehicle at the place we rented it from – one of the reasons we chose the RV that we did was because they said we could park our personal vehicle there during our stay. However, that also meant we had to drive the RV all around Yellowstone because we didn’t have another car. With a 5th wheel or trailer, you can still take your own personal vehicle, leave the RV at your campsite, and have less of a load when driving around.

However, as I mentioned, we only have a minivan, so our options were limited in that respect!

If you are going to be driving without hookups available to you, you may not want to rent the fanciest, most souped up RV that requires hookups in order to access the features. You should also consider what you are planning to do – if you don’t plan to spend a lot of time in the RV, you may not look for an RV that has entertainment options.

Read Reviews

I am a big fan of user reviews. I do think that you often see the really great and really horrible experiences through them, but I found all the reviews on RVShare to be really helpful. I personally stayed away from any that didn’t have any reviews – not because that means they are bad (more, they are just new to RVShare), but I just didn’t want to be the guinea pig for a new RVShare person when we were new to the experience ourselves.

Reading the reviews can give you further insight into what may not have been included in the owner description and help you decide if it’s the right RV for your family.

Know what’s included

Some owners will include everything – cooking supplies, bedding, movies, games, marshmallow sticks…the works. Others will either provide these for an added fee or they won’t be included at all.

Even if the owner says something like a kitchen kit will be included, you might want to verify exactly what is included. We had a big box that had a bunch of plates, knives, cutlery, a couple bowls, and a couple cutting boards. It also had a skillet. However, I wish I’d known there weren’t going to be more cooking vessels in it, because we ended up needing those. I would have liked to brought our own (I ended up cooking spaghetti noodles in a skillet!)

You should also see if cleaning supplies, hand soap, or toilet paper are included. Ours had some basic cleaning supplies, though no sponges or cloths, which made cleaning a little bit tricky!

Where will you put your personal vehicle?

If you aren’t getting the RV near your home, you might have to figure out what to do with your RV. We ended up getting an RV outside of Yellowstone, and we didn’t want to take our van into the park, too. I actually specifically looked for someone who said we could keep our vehicle at their location while we drove the RV – but this may not always be possible.

Some owners in RVShare will deliver (either for free or a fee) so that’s something to consider as well.

Dry camping vs full hookups

We went dry camping/RVing, which seems a bit ambitious for first timers. However, it actually went really well. We stayed at a camp site in Yellowstone, which do not have full hook-ups. However, they did have a dump station near by as well as a water station.

Knowing where you are going to be taking your RV or trailer is important. This can help you pick the right trailer or motor home for the situation.

Dry camping essentially means you won’t be able to hook your RV up to electricity, water line, and sewer. You might need to rely on a generator (if they have one), be a little more careful about water usage, etc.

Pay Attention to the Details

Each owner is going to have different details on their rental. Make sure you read the full description, cancellation details, when you can check-in and check-out, any additional fees, what’s included, and what the minimum age is to rent.

Before we rented ours, I read through ALL the available details to make sure I was familiar with everything. I think it’s especially important to know what different fees there are, and if they are optional or not.

If you don’t have your question answered by doing this, make sure you reach out to the owner before booking.

Definitely make sure you pay attention to the cancellation policy with the RV you are renting. Some individual owners are more flexible than others. If you worry that you might have to cancel, you need to be aware of what happens if the unexpected happens.

By paying attention to all of the details, you can make an informed decision on what recreational vehicles are right for you.

Extra Fees

There are different fees that might be included with your rental – there might be a cleaning fee (we could pay for cleaning ahead of time, or we could clean ourselves…with the possibility of them still charging if it wasn’t done to their satisfaction), fees for extra amenities, taxes, service fees for the RVShare platform, and insurance.

Some owners have cheaper rental rates but don’t include a lot of “extras” that other rentals don’t offer, so sometimes it may end up being more expensive. Reading the RV listing in its entirety makes a big difference.

RVShare automatically requires their standard insurance plan, but you can upgrade for more coverage. We did the ultimate insurance coverage, just because we were wanting to be extra cautious for our first trip and it just gave us a little bit of extra peace of mind. You may also want to check with your own car insurance provider to see if they’ll cover any issues that might arise, or with your credit card. Many credit card providers include insurance for rented vehicles.

There will also be a hold on your credit card for a refundable security deposit, so make sure your credit card can handle that! This will go on your credit card a few days before you leave.

Miles included

If you are getting a drivable motorhome, one thing to pay attention to is how many miles are included per night. I’ve seen RVs listed with as few as none per night with as many as 250. If you are planning a cross-country trip, the extra miles could add up – usually they are between .35 and .75 cents per extra mile.

Generator Use

Another thing to pay attention to is if a generator is included and if you can use it. Most rentals I saw included about four hours of RV use per night. I was worried about this at first, because I thought we would need a generator for everything…when in reality, we probably only used it for an hour each! The battery for the RV stayed well charged, and we only used it when we wanted to turn on the A/C for a little bit.

The campsite we stayed at limited when you could use a generator, so that’s something to pay attention to as well. I’m not sure if that’s the norm for camp site and RV parks.

Go over everything

The lady that we rented our RV from was fantastic. She gave us a full tour and showed us all the nooks and crannies, as well as how to run everything – such as how to empty the black and grey water (this is important!).

We felt much more confident in running the RV ourselves because of this. I suspect most owners will do this, especially if you are brand new – but don’t be afraid to ask questions and take notes!

Take a video or pictures

Before you leave the place where you pickup your RV, I would take detailed pictures and videos of the interior and exterior of the vehicle. This will protect you from being blamed for anything that you didn’t do.

The lady we rented from had a very detailed form where she wrote out all of the details on the RV and what was previously broken. I appreciated that she did this, and she encouraged us to let her know if we found something that was broken after we left. Not all owners will be as diligent though, so just make sure you protect yourself as much as possible!

Be familiar with the contract

There’s a standard contract that you sign when you go with RVShare, but many owners will have an additional agreement that you have to read and agree to. Our owner had a multi-page document that we had to to read, agree to, and sign before we could pick up the RV.

Put all the drivers on the agreement

When I booked our RV, I put myself down as the main driver and had to upload my driver’s license. Later, I went in and added my husband, because he was gonig to be the main driver. Don’t forget to do this! The verification process just takes a few minutes, so as long as you have a valid driver’s license without any major issues, it shouldn’t take a lot of time.

Communication with Owner

The owner of our RV sent messages through the RVShare website. I made sure I responded right away, and she was very quick to respond as well. Make sure you communicate before and during the rental (if possible).

We went to Yellowstone, which had NO Internet service or cell service. I couldn’t contact the RV owner if I wanted to (and at one point, I did – we couldn’t figure out why the outlets weren’t working!) If you know you’ll be going to a place like this, come up with an alternative way to contact them if you can.

How many seats vs sleep

The vehicle we rented said it slept seven. I assumed this meant there were seatbelts for seven, when in reality, there were only enough seats for six. We only had five people, but this could be a surprise for some!

You should also be aware of if car seats can fit safely or not if you are driving with children.

Know what’s expected of you

Make sure you know what is expected of you when it comes to taking care of the RV and plan accordingly. For instance, with our RV, we were expected to fill up the tank before returning it, which was about $75, emptying the water tank to a certain level, and cleaning it completely. You need to factor these into your budget and your schedule to ensure you get it back to you on time.

You should also make sure the expectations for cleaning are require upfront. We really couldn’t completely clean our RV until we removed all of our stuff, so we needed to get back to our rental place earlier so we could move all our stuff and finish our cleaning. Again, make sure there are cleaning supplies available to you or plan ahead!

Book Early

I started looking for RVs a few months before our trip, but I put off actually booking one until a few weeks before. At that point, not only were there a lot fewer options for RVs but there were fewer options for RV sites as well. Make sure you book early so you can make sure you get the best choice of RVs and RV sites.

Walkthrough afterward

This is really important and can prevent any issues down the road. The owner really should walk through the vehicle afterward with you there to point out any issues they see. You may have a difference in opinion, and if you don’t discuss issues before you leave, you could very well be hit with a big fee afterward.

For example, when we got back, the owner couldn’t get the generator to turn on, which was kind of a big deal. She messed with it for a while, and Forrest went over to see what was going on. She said it wasn’t working, but he was able to get it to turn on right away. They had a laugh about that afterward but had we not been there, she may have just thought it was broken and charged us for it!

Walking through can also help you rectify any quick issues. We took pictures of the mileage on the vehicle before and after we left, which

The owner we rented from had us all sign something upon leaving that the vehicle was accepted in the condition it was without any additional damages or issues, so we were able to leave knowing we wouldn’t have a shocking post-trip fees .

Our Overall Experience

The RVShare experience was very positive. I found it was really easy to filter and sort out what vehicles we were interested in at the location we wanted.

I like that you can favorite different vehicles so you can go and compare them easily later.

One thing I found confusing was sometimes one price was listed, but when I went in to book it, it changed considerably. I’m sure that this is because people charge more or less for certain dates, however, it would have been nice if this was adjusted on the search page based on the dates you were searching for.

The booking process was really simple and straightforward once we decided on a vehicle. They asked some questions, and the owner was sent our request. She approved it within an hour, and at that point, we were able to talk more.

Some vehicles are available with the Instant Book feature which means you don’t have to wait for approval from the RV person. If you are doing a last-minute trip, that might be something to look into.

I felt like the prices were reasonable, and there was really something for every option. I don’t know how the experience is from the owner’s side of things, but for a renter, it was pretty simple. I think it’s a great way to gain access to an RV without buying one – or if you are thinking of buying one but aren’t totally sure if it’s worth the investment.

There are other rental services out there, and they all have their pros and cons. However, RVShare is a great place to get started with this type of traveling if you are a beginner!

Have you used RVShare? Make sure you comment below to let us know how it went or if you have any questions!
