If you’ve ever been to Disneyland, you know that every moment is filled with excitement, wonder, and a fair share of photo opportunities. Naturally, you’ll want to capture these magical moments with your smartphone.

However, as any avid Disney-goer knows, a day at the park can quickly drain your phone’s battery. I know that I’m constantly taking pictures, using Disney Genie+, or checking our ride photos in the app.

So, the pressing question for many visitors is: Where can I charge my phone at Disneyland?

Fret not, for Disneyland has embraced the digital age, offering various charging options to ensure that your device stays powered up and ready to capture all the enchantment.

Where can I charge my phone at Disneyland?

Charge at Charging Kiosk Stations

Disneyland has got you covered with their charging kiosk stations. For $30, you can pick up one of their charging sticks, and when it runs out, just head to another charging station and trade it in. This is a one-time fee, so you can bring it to every trip.

They include:

• One fully charged portable battery
• One 3.5” USB to micro-USB cable (for most Android devices)
• One USB C Adapter (needed for some Android Devices)
• One 3.5″ Apple Lightning to USB cable (for iPhone generations 5+)

I personally don’t think they are the highest quality chargers, but if you want the ultimate convenient option, this might work for you.

You’ll typically find them near restrooms, dining areas, and other high-traffic spots. These charging stations are a handy way to top up your battery while taking a brief break from the magic.

Disneyland App

Disneyland offers its very own app, which is a must-have for navigating the park efficiently. Alongside ride times, maps, and dining options, the app also provides useful information about the location of charging stations.

You can use it to plan your charging breaks strategically, ensuring you’re never too far from a power source when you need it.

Bring Your Own Power Bank

One of the easiest solutions to keep your phone charged throughout the day is to bring your own power bank or portable charger.

Disneyland allows visitors to carry these devices, and you can use them while waiting in line or enjoying a meal. It’s a smart way to ensure your device stays juiced up without needing to find a charging station.

We have used this one for YEARS, and it has ever let us down. It keeps its charge for quite some time, and it has built-in charging cables. It can easily be recharged with a wall outlet. It’s expensive, but it’s bene one of our best purchases.

Outlets throughout the Park

There are actually some outlets available for public use throughout the park. They aren’t heavily advertised, but they are definitely available. This article tracks all of them, so be sure to check that out for more tips.

Guest Services

Don’t hesitate to ask Disneyland’s helpful Guest Services for assistance with your charging needs. They can direct you to the nearest charging station or provide valuable advice for keeping your phone powered up.

Plan Ahead

Lastly, the best way to ensure your phone stays charged is to plan ahead. Start your day with a fully charged device, close any unnecessary background apps, and lower screen brightness to conserve battery life. We always put our phones on low power mode before we get to the park.

January is one of those months where you don’t always know what you are going to get. While some feel like it’s the best weather of the year, others worry that it’s too cold to enjoy their time.

Regardless of how you feel, it is possible to pack in a way that prepares you for every type of weather. So in this post, we’ll be sharing exactly what to wear to Disneyland in January for the best trip!

January Disneyland Packing List:

For those of you in a hurry, here is a little “at a glance” list for packing for January. This list can be applicable to all ages!

• Long pants that are breathable. I personally love wearing joggers or leggings this time of year.
• Comfortable shirt – we prefer a short-sleeved t-shirt, though if you are more prone to being cold, long-sleeved t-shirts might be a better option for you.
• Sweatshirt, light sweater, or light jacket
• Sunscreen
• Hat – any hat will do! If you have an infant, you might want to pack a soft knit hat in case they get chilly.
• Sunglasses
• Water bottle
• Poncho
• Blanket for a stroller if you have an infant or toddler
• Comfortable shoes (preferably waterproof)

Dress in layers so you can adjust as needed

One of the best tips I can give you for what to wear to Disneyland in January is to dress in layers.

Not only will this help you be comfortable no matter what the temperature ends up being, but it will also help you be prepared for any sudden changes in weather.

For example, if you’re inside a dark attraction and it’s suddenly freezing cold, you can put on a jacket. Or if you’re out in the sun and it gets too hot, you can take off a layer or two.

Some good clothing options for layers are:

• Skirts with leggings
• Jeans over leggings
• Tank top with a t-shirt or cardigan
• Jackets and hoodies of all types
• Socks with your sandals – yes, this might be totally nerdy, but you might be grateful for the versatility of your footwear!

You might also want to consider bringing along a small backpack so you can carry around any extra layers. It can also be helpful to have easily removable layers in case you want to take off your jacket to pose in your cute Disney shirt with your favorite character!

Wear comfortable shoes

No matter what time of year it is, I always recommend wearing comfortable shoes when visiting Disneyland.

There’s a lot of walking involved, and you don’t want your feet to be hurting by the end of the day.

A good rule of thumb is to wear shoes that you would feel comfortable walking around in all day and that are well broken in. Don’t buy new shoes the week before your trip and expect to be comfortable.

If you know you’ll be doing a lot of walking, you might also want to consider bringing along a pair of flip flops or sandals to change into later in the day. I also think waterproof shoes or shoes that dry easily are a good idea as well, in case of rain storms.

Here are my favorite shoes for Disneyland:

• Hoka One – These are not your average tennis shoes. They feel like you are walking on air!
• MYGNA Sandals – I LOVE these sandals more than any shoe I’ve ever had. I have worn them the entire time at Disneyland and Disney World with no issue, gone on miles-long walks, and even a five-mile hike through the words. They are great for winter and summer months, and they look stylist enough to make the perfect outfit.

Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat!

Even though it’s not as hot in January as it is in the summer, you can still get sunburned if you’re not careful.

I like to apply sunscreen before we enter the park, and then again after we’ve been in line for a few rides.

If you’re going to be in the sun for extended periods of time, you might also want to consider wearing a hat.

A baseball cap is always a good option, but if you really want to keep the sun off your face and neck, a wide-brimmed hat is better.

I always wear my Monster’s University hat (well, the green on that says O.K. on the front) when we go – while I love Mickey Mouse ears, they don’t really do much in terms of protection.

For young children, I would definitely bring hats that don’t easily fall off, so maybe not a ball cap. I like knit hats that are a little tighter fitting or a sun hat with a strap.

Long pants and a comfortable t-shirt

These are a good base for your Disneyland outfit. While you might be able to get away with shorts, I think most of the time, long, breathable pants are a good option.

You could also consider just wearing capris or board shorts for a more “in-between” option.

Everyone has a different style, but I think you can never go wrong with a nice t-shirt at Disneyland. I personally always go with a short-sleeve shirt, but if you are someone who gets cold really easily, a long sleeve might be a good option.

Bring along a sweatshirt or light jacket

This is an essential part of layering – if you get cold, you can easily take these on or off. I actually prefer a zip-up jacket, so I don’t have to be constantly messing up my hair, and I just find them to be easier to take on and off. I got a super cute Disney zip-up jacket during our last trip when I forgot to pack any layers! It was super expensive, but I love it.

Don’t forget your rain ponchos!

If you love rides like Splash Mountain or Grizzy River Run, you should definitely bring a poncho. If it happens to be overcast or chilly when you go to Disneyland, the last thing you want is to get soaked and not have the sun to dry you out.

Trust me – this happened to me. We went on an overcast, chilly day, and we went on Splash Mountain first. I sat in a front way, and I was DRENCHED the rest of the day. It was actually kind of miserable!

Average Temperatures in January in Anaheim

While the weather can vary greatly depending on the year or even week, the average high temperature in January is 69 degrees and the average low is 47 degrees. 47 is pretty cold weather for some people! However, your daytime temperatures usually won’t be that chilly during this month of the year. You should plan for chilly mornings, though.

For some, this sounds like perfect shorts and t-shirt weather, while others will be pulling out the park the moment is hits 69 degrees. You know yourself best, so just be aware of that when packing. It’s not uncommon to see some rainy days at the happiest place on earth when you are visiting in January. Don’t let this scare you away though, you may have a sunny day during your trip as well.

I do recommend checking the weather app on your cell phone in the days leading up to your trip the to get an idea of what to expect. For instance, we went in early February last year, and we were fully expecting mild weather with some clouds.

Nope. It was the mid-90s and sunny, and it was NOT what we were expecting. So even though you might expect cooler temperatures in January, it is not always the case!

Is January a good time to visit Disneyland?

January can be a great way to avoid long lines and have fewer people in the parks than may have been seen in previous months during the holiday season or during warmer months of the year. In fact, most of the winter months (Excluding December) can make for a great Disneyland park visit.

Toward the end of January begins the Lunar New Year fest, so there may be increased crowds then. But overall, January is a great time to visit Disneyland if you can handle the possibility of cooler days.

Web Slingers is the latest and greatest attraction at Disney’s California Adventure – and it’s not uncommon to find a wait time over an hour.

In our opinion, it’s definitely worth the wait – in fact, it’s one of our favorite attractions in California Adventure.

With the right strategy, you can find a shorter wait time and a higher game score. In this article, we’ll be sharing everything you need to know!

Web-Slingers Overview

(spoilers)

Web-Slingers is a 3D, interactive ride where you are working to help Spiderman stop the self-replicating spiders. These were created to do good, but then they couldn’t turn of the self-replicating mode, and the spiders started destroying everything in their way!

The experience begins when you enter the room outside the queue. There is usually about 20-30 people brought in at a time. After a few minutes, you will be funnelled into another room, where there is a fun presentation as if you were at the World Engineering Brigade (WEB), led by Peter Parker himself. He starts to explain what they do and then the spiders start to self-replicate. Despite his efforts to get them turned off, they just start going crazy.

Spiderman is summoned, so Peter Parker darts off. You are instructed to help get rid of all them, and at this point, a door will open and you’ll go to the next line, which takes about 20 minutes to get through, depending on where you are in line. You’ll pick up your 3D glasses at the beginning of this.

One of the best parts of this ride is all of the decor and easter eggs throughout the inside area of the waiting area. Definitely take some time to look around and enjoy the experience!

Once you get through the line, you’ll be put into one of the pods to start the ride. There can be up to four people in each one. Everyone is assigned a color of web so you can more easily see what you’re doing.

The ride begins, and the amount of spiders increases with each room. There will be larger ones that you have to defeat the further you go. Spiderman almost dies, but in the end, you save him!

You get an individual score as well as a team score – so while you are somewhat competing against others in your group, it’s a group effort as well to get the highest score.

This ride is really a lot of fun, and it’s actually a pretty good workout. If I have gone it on a few times in a row, I start to get pretty tired toward the end!

Is Web-Slingers Worth the Wait?

You’ll hear a lot of mixed opinions on this ride. I was surprised when I Googled the ride and saw that it had such a low rating from Google Reviews.

But our family absolutely LOVES this ride, and it’s totally worth the wait (within reason). Here are a few reasons why:

• There are NO height limits, which means our whole family can ride. Even though our two-year-old doesn’t totally understand the ride, he loves being able to do what everyone else does.
• It’s really fun! We love the competition aspect of it, and it’s something we can all really enjoy together.
• It is well-made. The graphics are high-quality, and it really doesn’t feel glitchy at all. We’ve been on a similar ride at LEGOLAND, which is still fun, but it doesn’t feel nearly as smooth.
• It’s Spiderman! Who doesn’t love Spiderman!

So, go grab a snack (I recommend some dill popcorn from the Popcone), wait in line, and have some fun!

How to Ride Web Slingers

There are three different ways to get in line for Web Slingers:

• Stand-by Line: This is going to be your least expensive (aka, free) option. Just hop-in the stand-by line and wait your turn.
• Single Rider Line: DCA recently introduced the Single Rider Line for Web Slingers. If you are at the park by yourself or don’t mind splitting up with your group, you can usually get through the line much more quickly.
• Disney Genie+ Lightning Pass: This is usually going to be your fastest option, but it’s going to cost you some money. You can buy an individual Lightning Pass for Web Slingers. It can vary depending on the day from $7-15 (we’ve seen it at $7 and $12). You will want to start checking at the beginning of the day for pass availability.

How to Get a Shorter Wait

Rope Drop

If you are wiling to get to the park early to rope drop, Web Slingers can be a good option for this. Try to get there as early as you are able to before the park opens and head over to the rope drop for this ride.

In my experience, the ride doesn’t always open right at rope drop, though, for various reasons – so just be aware that this isn’t a fool-proof plan!

Head toward the door

This is my favorite secret. In the second room (so after you get into the building and go into the room with Peter Parker), move yourself as close as you can to the garage type-door that is on the wall. If you go into the room on the right, it will be on the left wall and if you go into the room on the left, it will be on the right wall.

This will ensure you are the first person into the line for the ride after the presentation is over. Most people don’t seem to pay attention to where they are standing, and I just find my way over there. It easily saves you at least 10 minutes in line (maybe more!)

Monitor the line – not the app

This may not always be true – but the wait times are usually pretty inflated on the app and outside the ride.

For instance, we recently got in line when it said it was 75 minutes, and we waited for less than 30. We got right back on afterward, and it was probably a 10-minute wait, as opposed to the 45-minute wait it claimed.

When we first went on the ride, it said 90 minutes, and it was probably around 60 minutes.

You can get a pretty good idea of how long you’ll be waiting depending on how long the line is. There are three different areas of the line – there is the main part, which is by the front door, the back area, and then the queue in front of that (and obviously that sometimes bleeds out into the park).

If you are in the main chunk, your wait will probably be like 10-20 minutes. The second area, 20-40 minutes, and the last area, maybe upwards of 60 minutes.

Go During World of Color

If you don’t have your heart set on going to the World of Color, in the hour before it starts, you can usually find shorter lines, especially the closer it gets.

Watch for Shutdowns

This ride does shut down every now and then throughout the day, which is a bummer. However, it usually doesn’t stay down for too long, so if you want to stick around that area, if you can get in line as soon as it starts to re-open, you can really save yourself a lot of time!

Single Rider Line

Hop in that Single Rider Line! We have had our cart only have three people in it a few times, which makes me think that there aren’t a lot of people taking advantage of this line. You may not end up with a friend or family member, but if that doesn’t bother you, this is going to be a great way to save time!

Lightning Pass

And of course, if your time is more valuable than your money when it comes to this ride, grab a lightning pass. This is going to send you to the front of the line pretty quickly!

Web-Slinger Hacks and Tips for a Higher Score

Now, this is probably what you’ve all been waiting for – tips for getting a higher score.

This ride really brings out the competitive nature in most of us (myself included) – and it’s almost addictive to try and get a better score.

There is more strategy to the ride than just pointing aimlessly at the screen. It can take some practice, but with these tips, you’ll be a pro in no time!

Hand Movements

It’s pretty tempting to make long arm movements with your hands facing upward like you’re actually shooting spider-webs. I hate to break it to you – but you aren’t! So you don’t have to do this.

Instead, I recommend doing smaller, quicker movements with your hands and with your palms facing down. I really believe this allows you to get more targets, more quickly – and you’ll feel less fatigued!

Doors and Levers

There are doors and levers in each of the levels. You can shoot your spider-web at them to see what happens. Some of them will open and reveal nothing, but others will release some higher-value bots. Definitely try and open/release a few of these!

Bot-Type Matters!

I didn’t realize this until the third time I went on the ride, but there are different colored Spider-Bots. And yes – they are worth different values of points.

Here are the different colors, in order of the most valuable (from least to most). There are definitely less of the higher-value ones, but they are worth trying to get!

• Red
• Blue
• Green
• Gold

Don’t Think – Just Shoot!

This is really one of the keys – just go wild hitting every spider you can get. I try and get them as soon as they appear and sometimes will focus on clusters of spiders. But at the end of the day, I just move my arms as quickly as possible.

Upgrades

For the real diehards, you can buy some upgrades at the store right outside Web-Slingers. These give you power-ups to shoot electro-charged webs or repulsor blasts. The benefit of these are to help you hit more Spider-Bots at one time.

These are 100% not necessary to have fun and rack up a lot of points, but if you are just dying to get on the leader board, you may need to get one of these. Here are the different options:

Conclusion

Overall, we love Web-Slingers. The line length time can be a little annoying, but it is one of our favorite attractions at DCA these days. It’s probably not for everyone, but I definitely recommend trying it at least once!

What is Disney Genie Plus?

The Disney Genie Plus service is a great way for guests to get their new fast pass while saving time and energy. This service allows guests to obtain a new fast pass by using the Disneyland app, from anywhere on property! You can use this amazing feature from your hotel room, while waiting in line for another ride, or even while you’re eating.s

How Much does Disney Genie Plus Cost?

Disney Genie+ costs $20 per day, per person. This can add a significant cost to a trip cost for those who have large parties.

You also need to keep in mind that in addition to this cost, there are individual lightning lane rides. I’ve seen these range in price from $7 up to $20. This can also add a substantial cost to your trip, especially if you are booking for multiple people.

For instance, on our recent Disney trip, we paid for four members of our party to go on Radiator Springs. It was $7 – so $28. The line was over 120 minutes long, so it felt worth it.

However, for everyone to go on The Rise of the Resistance ride, it would have been over $100, which is a lot more! Instead, we did some strategic planning to get a shorter wait time for that ride (maybe I’ll share that another time).

You can purchase it when you buy your tickets or when you get to the park. When we went to Disneyland, we added it directly to our vacation package that we booked through Get Away Today, which was convenient.

How is Genie+ different from the MaxPass?

There are a few differences:

• MaxPass cost $20 per day, per person, while Genie+ is $15 (plus tax)
• You can only get one attraction per day with Genie+
• MaxPass had 22 rides on it, while Genie+ has under 20
• While MaxPass included premium rides, such as Radiator Springs Riders, Genie+ requires you may extra for some of those top ticket rides.

In addition to there no longer being a MaxPass, Disneyland has also done away with the paper FastPass system, which was free to anyone who wanted to use it. Now, if you want to skip the lines, you’ll have to pay.

How is Genie+ different from the FastPass+ System?

I will admit that I never went to Disney World when they had a FastPass+ system in place, but from what I understand, here are the differences:

• FastPass+ was just included with your Disney reservation, and it wasn’t an additional fee
• You can’t book ride reservations ahead of time like you could with the FastPass+ system (which has it’s pros and cons – but definitely benefits those who book last minute trips)
• Genie+ offers more flexibility – you don’t have to plan your trip months in advance, and it does give you more options for riding.
• There is no limit to the number of Lightning Lane passes you can redeem during your trip (one per ride). With FastPass+, each guest was limited to just three selections per day.

How Do I Sign Up for Disney Genie Plus?

If you are interested in signing up for Disney’s Genie Plus service, it’s pretty simple:

• When you book your tickets, you can add it directly to your tickets, and it will be available in the app
• If you wait until your trip….
  • All you have to do is download the Disneyland app
  • Login with your account information
  • Click on the Genie Plus feature and enter your credit card information

Is there a difference between Disneyland and Disney World’s service?

They mostly work the same, but for some reason, I felt like Disney World’s just worked better.

One of the biggest differences is when you can book your rides:

• At Disney World, you can book your first ride at 7 AM. While it requires an early wake up time, if you don’t make it to the park as soon as it opens, you have an opportunity to get a good start to your Disney Genie+ Day
• At Disneyland, you can’t book your first ride until you have checked into the park (and everyone in your party who wants to ride together have to check in). You can go off site and book rides after the initial check-in, but you can’t book the first one until you are physically in the park.

The other big difference is that at Disney World, they include non-ride attractions in the LIghtning Pass options. At Disneyland, it just includes rides.

What are the Lightning Lane Rides?

What are the pros of Disney Genie Plus?

There are a lot of great benefits to using Disney Genie+:

• It is great for anyone who wants to enjoy more time on rides without having to waste time waiting in line.
• You can use this amazing feature from your hotel room (if you’ve already checked in for the day) while waiting in line for another ride, or even while you’re eating.
• It is great for park hopping – you can check availabilty for other parks and book rides for later in the day, even if you aren’t physically in the park
• It includes some fun features, such as audio experiences and filters for photos to entertain you while you are in the line

What are the cons of Disney Genie Plus?

While Disney Genie Plus does have many great benefits, there are also some cons that you need to be aware of.

• The first thing you should know about is that while using this service, your phone needs to be on and in range of the Disneyland app at all times. If your phone dies and you can’t charge it, you won’t be able to get on the rides (it’s always helpful to have more than one member of your party logged in with access to all the tickes!)
• You can only use one Lightning Lane passes at a time (with the exception of the Individual Lightning lane passes)
• You can only get one Lightning Lane pass per ride
• It can be a little tricky to figure out the best strategy for getting the Lightning Pass you want. This is the strategy we used, but I felt like it worked best at Disney World.
• Because SO many people are opting in to purchase the Lightning Lane
• Sometimes, the more popular rides “sell out” of passes quickly, you might miss out on a favorite ride. Or, they might have wait times pushed out to later in the day pretty quickly, so you have to wait to take advantage of your passes until later in the day.

How do I maximize my time with Disney Genie Plus?

The first thing that you should know about this new service is that it isn’t intended to be used for every attraction.

It’s designed to help you get on some of the more popular rides more quickly, so you can have more time for other activities that may not have as long of wait times.

You can still use the old standby system of going to the attraction and waiting in line. We did this for quite a few rides.

I discuss my main strategy in this post, but I think the best overall strategy is:

• Get to the park early and book the most popular lightning lane rides
• Try and get in line for the Lightning Lane rides that cost money so you can avoid that cost. We did find that these rides seemed to open around 9 AM, so it might be worth hanging around those areas so you can jump in line as soon as they open.
• Since ride wait times are lower in the morning, try and take advantage of those rides that aren’t on the Disney Genie+ (or rides that are but you know you want to ride more than once).

I debated whether or not we should buy the Disney Genie+ until we got to the parks to see how busy they were. In the end, I was glad we had it for all three days, especially when we did park hopping. Had I waited until partway through the day, we wouldn’t have gotten nearly as much value.

Can You use Disney Genie+ with Rider Switch?  

Yes, you can! Each person who wants to ride the ride DOES need to have a valid Lightning Lane pass, but you just have to let them know that you wanted to take advantage of the Rider Switch option.

At Disney world when we went, they would let you bring one person along with you on the Rider Switch.

At Disneyland, they let you have up to three people scanned to come back later (so two in addition to the person sitting behind).

They just can three tickets, so it doesn’t have to be anyone specific. For instance

What happens if a ride breaks down?

If a ride closes down that you have a Lightning Lane Pass for, it turns into a magical pass that allows you to go to the front of the line for one of many rides – quite a few of which aren’t even a Lightning Lane option.

For instance, Forrest had a lightning lane pass for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and it closed down. Since it was later at night, it just didn’t open back up. But he got a pass and took the boys to the front of the line for the Alice in Wonderland ride, which was a fun end to the trip.

Can you cancel a Lightning Lane pass?

Yep! You can cancel a Lightning Lane pass so long as it hasn’t expired.

Can You use Disney Genie+ if you have a toddler that does not need a fastpass?

Yes! Because our son is two, we didn’t have to buy a Disney ticket for him. However, if it was a ride that he was tall enough for, he was able to go on with the rest of us.

Do I have to use Disney Genie+?

You do not! This is a 100% optional feature.

How are the Lightning Lane Lines?

Honestly, some of them were really short and some of them were really long. I also found that many of the attendants weren’t even paying attention when you scanned in. I suspect some people took advantage of this and went into the ride without a pass (just at Disneyland. When we went to Disney World, they had two checkpoints for your pass).

How does Disney Genie+ Work with Park Hopping?

One of the best parts of Disney Genie+ is that you can use it with Park Hopping.

The main thing to keep in mind that is you want to make sure you have enough time to get to and from each ride. When we used it on both days, we spent the first part of the day at Disneyland and the second half at California Adventure.

Is Disney Genie Plus Worth the cost?

The question everyone is asking the most is if the Disney Genie Plus service is worth the cost so here’s my personal opinion

I definitely think it can be. We used it at both Disneyland and Disney World, and we found it worth it because:

• Standby longs WERE pretty long for a lot of the rides
• We were traveling with our younger children (including a toddler) – waiting in line can be a lot harder! Because we could use rider switch, it also made it so someone didn’t have to wait off the ride and entertain our toddler by themselves for very long.
• It was hot, and the less time. Ihad. tostand in line, the better.

I think if you have several days to spend at the park where you don’t have to rush, then it might be worth it to not buy it until you get to the park.

If you don’t mind standing in the lines for most of the rides but would like to skip the lines for the premium Lightning Lane rides, it might be worth it to skip the pass and just buy those few rides.

While there are certain parts of Disney Genie+ I would change, it does make for a more enjoyable trip. There is a good amount of flexibility with it, and it can make your trip run a little more smoothly.

Should you use a baby carrier or stroller at Disney World?

In our experience, if you have a younger baby between 0-6 months old, we recommend using a carrier instead of a stroller. This is because it can be challenging to push a stroller in Disney World’s crowded walkways and queues.

You also run the risk of your little one falling asleep when in the stroller and then waking up when you put them down to change their position, or worse – waking up and being upset because they are in an unfamiliar environment. This can be very stressful for both you and your baby!

You may also want to consider using a carrier even if your little one is older than 6 months old. Carrying them through the parks will help keep them from getting tired and cranky from being in a stroller for too long.

If you have an older child who is capable of walking or riding a scooter at Disney World, you can still bring a carrier along to use in the queues when necessary.

A carrier will definitely come in handy if your child gets tired while walking around Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom. This is because you can hop in a carrier with your little one while your older child continues walking for another 20 minutes or so before wanting to be carried themselves!

There are many rides that you can wear a baby on at Disney World – slower moving ones, such as it’s a small world and the Jungle Cruise, are especially carrier-friendly. However, sometimes a cast member may request that you remove them on rides that are jerkier.

The Best Type of Carrier for Disney World

There are many different types of carriers available on the market today. And while some may be suitable for wearing at Disney World, others definitely are not!

We think that the best types of carriers are either wrap carriers (especially for smaller babies) and soft structured carriers. I like the soft-sided carriers due to them having a little bit extra support. Backpack carriers, like ones you might take hiking, can be a bit more cumbersome.

There are many benefits of wearing your baby at Disney World. Here are some of the main ones:

• You can take weight off your feet and arms by wearing them in a carrier – especially with heavy toddlers that want to be held. This is great if you have small children who tire easily, or for those times when you want to take a rest but don’t want to put your child in a stroller.
• You can have both hands free to do things like push a stroller, hold an older child’s hand and take photos on your phone/camera. Plus this allows you to fully participate in the fun activities throughout the parks!
• Babies who are worn cry less – and it’s always a good idea to limit crying as much as possible!
• Some children may have an easier time having nap time on the go, rather than having to run back to the hotel room. This is great because you can then avoid the trouble of finding a place for them to sleep, or having them sit in a stroller while everyone else does rides.
• Having your baby in a carrier can make long days during a Disney vacation with a young child a little bit easier.
• If you are taking taking advantage of Disney transportation, it can be simpler to have your baby in a carrier rather than a stroller that you have to fold up

Cons of Babywearing at Disney World

There are a few downsides to babywearing at Disney World. Here is what you need to keep in mind:

• You will have an added expense as you’ll likely need to purchase a carrier if you don’t already own one. However, there is really no way around this since carriers can be expensive and you can’t carry a child around for an entire day without one!
• You need to make sure that your carrier is comfortable. If you are not used to wearing it, do some trial runs at home before you go to the parks so you’ll know how it feels and if it’s something that will wear you out during a whole day of walking around.
• You need to make sure that your carrier is safe and secure before attaching the baby to you. Never try wearing a carrier for the first time with your baby in it while at Disney World! And never use an older model carrier, no matter how much you may love it.
• If you wear your baby and they fall asleep, it can be harder to leave them with someone else while you go on a ride. If they are asleep in a stroller, this will be easier.
• You don’t have an easy place to put your child’s sippy cup like you would with a stroller

Some people think it is a no-no, but the official Disney site does not mention anything about footwear. Flip Flops are a type of sandal that can be quite comfortable and very necessary for those who have problems with their feet. Here’s what you need to know if you want to take them with you on your next trip to the Magic Kingdom.

You can walk pretty far in flip-flops. This is both a pro and a con. On one hand, you can easily get around the park without your feet hurting too much (or at all) for a while. Most people find them to be pretty comfortable. You might find yourself getting blisters or sore feet after walking non-stop for hours on end.

Flip flops also don’t really offer a ton of support, especially if they are less expensive ones. That Old Navy Flip Flops you get for $1 during the summer might not be the best option for hours of walking.

If you like the freedom of flip-flops but don’t want to be cursing your choice at the end of the day, we personally love these two types of sandals. They are similar to flip-flops because they are easy to put on, but they do offer more support. They also have back straps, which can help keep them more secure on rides.

But. the big question is – are flip flops even allowed?

A rumor that is often spread is that you can’t wear flip flops on certain rides such as Splash Mountain, Tower of Terror, or Star Tours.

But is this true? Flip flops are so common for some that it’s hard to believe that they are actually banned at certain Disney rides.

Well, in our research, there is no published guidance from Disneyland or Disney World on what type of footwear is appropriate for the rides.

I did find a couple of instances of people being asked to take their flip flops off for Soarin’ Over California, but it was just for the duration of the ride.

I suppose there may be a cast member who has gone on a power trip and tried to tell people they couldn’t wear certain shoes, but it’s simply not a part of the policy for the parks.

Disney’s official site says this:

“The parks are a casual, family-oriented environment. We suggest you dress comfortably, wear good walking shoes and check the local weather report before you leave for the parks. Review our Pre-Arrival Tips to make sure you come prepared for a fun-filled trip!”

So I guess it’s really up to you to decide what good walking shoes are. Personally, cheap flip-flops are not what I would ever wear to the Disney Parks, but it’s really up to you.

Disney’s official site does not mention anything about wearing flip-flops to both parks. But you are more than welcome to bring them along on your next trip! Just keep in mind that you might want to bring along a slightly sturdier pair of shoes for all the walking you’ll be doing.

“What is the best age for Disneyland”

This is the million dollar question asked by families every year – When should they take their child to Disneyland?

Is there truly a best age to visit the Disney parks?

The truth is – there isn’t just one good age to go to Disneyland.

I have taken my children to Disney as young as two months old and as old as nine. I have gone as an adult and as a teenager. We’ve traveled with other families and grandparents.

And every trip has been unique and memorable. Each experience has helped me realize that there is magic in every age.

It is one of the theme parks that families of all shapes and sizes can enjoy – from baby to grandparent.

However, if you are trying to find that sweet spot – this post should help you determine that. Many people can only go to Disneyland or Disney World once in their lives, so finding a time that is the most perfect can feel important.

There’s no one right time or perfect age for everyone – it’s all about finding the right time for your family!

Let’s dive in – below I’ll share my best tips for going with different ages to help you decide when the best time to take YOUR family is.

Disneyland with a Baby

When we tell people we have taken our babies to Disney, we usually get that “Are you insane?” look from people. You know what I’m talking about.

Is Disneyland with a baby the easiest? Nope. But can it still be fun? Absolutely.

For my 30th birthday, Forrest and I went to Disneyland with our three-month-old. We had so much fun!

Now, if you just have a baby (no older kids) and this is your once in a lifetime trip, it probably wouldn’t be my first choice when to go.

But if you have older children and some help and one your kids happens to be a baby, I wouldn’t let that hold you back from going. You really can have a great time at the happiest place on earth when you have a baby with you.

Pros

• Relatively easy to take them around the park in a carrier or stroller. I find babies are less finicky about taking naps on the go in the park than say, a toddler. There are always exceptions to this – especially if you have a baby who is very particular about their sleep environment. But we’ve found this to be true when we’ve brought babies.
• Disney has great baby care centers throughout all their parks. These are perfect for quick diaper changes, feeding, and getting any supplies you may have forgotten. You can also cool down here with your baby, which is great. They have these in both parks, and they are very clean.
• Your baby isn’t going to be opinionated on what you do – with older kids, you’ll be pulled in different directions based on their preferences and what they want to do, but with babies – they’ll just go wherever you want.
• Disneyland has a lot of baby-friendly rides. I definitely think it’s one of the best baby-friendly theme parks ever! Most of the time you can wear them in a carrier on the rides.
• You can take advantage of Rider Switch, which allows you to have someone stay behind with the baby and go to the front of the line afterward. Usually this comes with the ability for a couple of other people to go with them, so you don’t have to worry about missing all your favorite rides!
• Lots of places to sit if you need to breastfeed or give a bottle

Cons

• It’s hard to have a full day at the park – just because it’s a really long day! I don’t recommend going from sunup til sun down with a baby in tow.
• Many of the rides that are baby-friendly can also be REALLY loud. This can be pretty overwhelming for some babies, and even if it doesn’t bother them, I always worry about what the sound might do to their hearing. I definitely recommend getting infant ear protection!
• If you are bottle feeding, it can be a pain to try and prepare bottles on the go while you are in the park.
• Someone always has to stay with them – even though the Rider Switch is super helpful, the fact of the matter is – someone is always going to be left behind. You’ll never get to go on a ride altogether with your entire group.
• Most of the year, Disneyland is going to be hot – babies can overheat easily, so you need to take extra precautions to ensure they are protected and well-hydrated.
• Disneyland attracts people from all different cities and countries and places around the world. With infants having weaker immune systems (especially if they haven’t been fully vaccinated), they may be more susceptible to picking up illnesses in the park – even a common cold.

Best Rides and Attractions

There are a lot of great rides and attractions that your baby can participate in – this isn’t an all exhaustive list, but here are a few you can definitely enjoy with them! I’ve taken my kids on a lot of rides as babies, though many of them are pretty loud, so I haven’t included those below.

• it’s a small world
• Dumbo the Flying Elephant
• Jungle Cruise
• The Enchanted Tiki Room (great place just to sit down for awhile that also happens to be air conditioned)
• Pixar Pal-a-Round (just make sure you get in a cart that doesn’t move)
• Disneyland Railroad
• Parades – my kids always enjoy the bright sounds and fun music

Disneyland with a Toddler (2-3)

Toddlers and Disneyland can be SO fun but so exhausting. They tend be less likely to fall asleep in the park, get crankier, and start throwing tantrums. They are also at an age where they might not be so happy about not being able to go on all the rides with everyone else.

It can be a really magical experience though to visit the Disneyland Resort with toddlers – you just need to be prepared and not expect to spend the entire day running from attraction to attraction.

Whenever I’ve been at Disneyland with a toddler, I think how nice it would be to stay on site at one of the Disneyland resorts. It would make it so much easier if you could just pop back to the hotel for a quick nap and be right back at the park. When we leave the park with our toddlers, it’s usually a bit of a trek to get back to the hotel – so we rarely come back.

If you can go with grandparents, this would be a good age to bring them!

If I’m being honest, though, this is probably my least favorite age to take a child to Disneyland 🙂

Pros

• It can be so very magical with a toddler, especially when they see their favorite characters in real life!
• There are lots of toddler-friendly rides – and thank goodness for that, because you’ll probably be riding them over and over again!

Cons

• Your child won’t be tall enough for a lot rides – and in my experience, this can be super sad for the kids (especially when they are closer to three), especially if they see everyone else going on them.
• Long days at the park are definitely difficult with toddlers, especially if they aren’t on their regular schedules
• Nap times are trickier – toddlers can be less likely to fall asleep in the park with everything going on around them, and they probably won’t get as long of a nap as they might normally be used to
• Toddlers can be very opinionated about what they want to do – and they can also be very intense about wanting toys they see. Avoid souvenir shops at all costs!
• Potential for tantrums – toddlers are known for toddlers, and I feel like I see more toddlers having tantrum in the park than any other age
• They don’t always have the longest attention spans, so going to live shows or longer rides might not be very fun for them.

Best Rides and Attractions

All of the rides I mentioned under babies are great for toddlers too, but I’d also add in some others that might be a little more “dark” and “noisy”. I actually think kids this age are less likely to get scared of some of these rides (it’s closer to 4-5 that I see that fear start to come out)

• There are some great playgrounds that toddlers will love! I really love the one in Toon Town. When we took one of our kids as a toddler, they would have spent all day there if we’d let them
• Speaking of Mickey Mouse Toon Town, it’s going to be a great place to take your toddler. The rides might not be as appealing to them but they will love walking through the houses!
• Alice in Wonderland
• Casey Jr. Circus Train
• The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
• it’s a small world
• Peter Pan’s Flight
• King Triton’s Carousel
• Little Mermaid
• Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind
• Monster’s Inc: Mike and Sully to the Rescue
• Tarzan’s Treehouse
• Storybrook Land Canal Boats

Disneyland with a Preschooler (4-5)

I can honestly say that this is one of the most TRULY magical ages to take a child to a Disney park. I feel like you can just feel the excitement as they see their favorite characters come to life. This is definitely one of my favorite ages to go to Disneyland with kids.

This was when I first went to Disneyland as a child, and I still have very vivid memories of that trip. Those are probably my most distinct memories from that time in my life!

Children this age may not be able to go on every ride, but I feel like they just soak it all in – maybe a little beyond the age of five. But really, it’s the best. I wish I could remember going to Disneyland when I was this age, but it’s so special seeing it through my kids age.

The memories your child may have a trip at this age aren’t going to be as vivid as some of the other ages, but I promise, they will absolutely love it! And even more, you’ll have SO much fun watching Disney through the eyes of your younger kids.

Pros

• Kids this age tend to have more stamina – they don’t usually take naps during the day, they can walk more (though a stroller can be helpful for the very long days), and they are generally a little less likely to throw temper tantrums.
• Very magical – some of my favorite memories with my kids and seeing them totally light up when they saw their favorite characters or scenes from a movie
• They can usually go on MOST rides – though I would say that’s true closer to the age of five. We took my oldest when he was four, and he was about 1/2″ too short for a lot of rides still, but he was a small kid. We took my second son to Disney World at the age of five, and the only ride he couldn’t go on was Avatar. I think at Disneyland, he wouldn’t have been able to go on Indiana Jones (but he is also very small for his age!)
• This is the prime age for excitement about Disney characters!

Cons

• Long lines can be hard for this age, especially since you might not have a stroller with you where they can rest.
• I find a lot of kids have a lot of fear at these ages – they don’t want to try as many rides, and the darker/louder rides might feel scarier for them.
• This age also seems to be the most likely to be lost. You may not insist on holding their hand as much, and their attention can be distracted really easily. How do I know this? Well, my son got lost at Disneyland when he was four.
• Your child should remembers bits and pieces of the trip, but it may not be as vivid as when they are older.

Best Rides and Attractions

All of the rides listed in the toddler section should be great for this age, plus:

Again – this doesn’t mean your child won’t enjoy some of the other rides I’ll list in older categories (some of them, I’m sure your child would!), but I find they can be a little hit or miss. Most of the ones above are going to be solid hits for most kids.

A lot of people see the Radiator’s Springs racers and think their kids this age will love it – which some will. But it’s actually a little more intense than you might expect. My son was four when he went on it, and he was a little traumatized!

Two other rides I didn’t mention were Astroblasters and Midway Mania. My kids this age go on these rides and have fun, but I find they need more help than older kids do. But you can definitely take them on them!

Disneyland with an elementary child (6-10)

At this point, your child is likely to meet all the height requirements for rides, so you won’t have to worry about any type of disappointment when it comes to going on a ride for that reason. Children this age still appreciate the magic of Disneyland, and they usually still get excited about the characters (though they may act less excited the older they get).

This is also an age where they might start to have stronger memories of the trip, so if you are looking for a time where they still enjoy the magic of Disney yet are old enough to remember the trip – as well as be less likely to throw a tantrum, elementary aged is great.

We had a lot of fun last year at Disney World with my (then) eight-year-old. He had previously been terrified of pretty much every ride, and this time, he went on everything and LOVED it!

Pros

• Kids this age are going to be more easily meet all the height requirements for any ride they want to go on.
• They will definitely remember the trip
• I find kids this age to be pretty enthusiastic and excited about being at Disneyland – they aren’t too cool to hang out with their parents 🙂
• They can keep going for longer – no need to stop a lot for breaks, take naps, etc. They generally will keep going as long as you’ll let them!

Cons

• May not enjoy the “little” kid rides anymore – though I find they are usually willing to go and have a fun time once they are on them 🙂
• Some kids are still a little fearful at this age – though they might be more easily convinced to at least try something

Best Rides and Attractions

Many of the rides previously listed will still be a lot of fun for this age group, but you can also add these rides to your day and be able to ride them with them.

• Grizzly River Run
• Star Tours
• Goofy’s Sky School
• Star Wars Launch Bay
• Pirates of the Caribbean
• Haunted Mansion
• Toy Story Midway Mania

• Millenium Falcon Smuggler’s Run
• Star Wars: Rise of the Resistence

Some of the more intense rides listed in the next category will be fun for this age as well, depending on the child. I know my oldest son and their cousins we went with last time weren’t as enthusiastic for some of them 🙂

Disneyland with middle to high school (11-18)

And finally, the last stage of childhood – middle and high school. Obviously, this is a big age range, so not all of this will be applicable. But take from it what you will.

This age is great because you know that your child will remember the trip, they can go on every ride, and they can just go, go, go.

However, depending on the kid, you might start to get more of a “I’m too cool for this” or “My parents are so lame” attitude. This obviously isn’t true for everyone, and there is plenty of Disney Magic to be found – but I find you sometimes have to dig a little deeper to get that to come out.

You’ll probably spend some more time a the Disney California Adventure Park, as that is a lot of fun for tweens and teens.

Pros

• They will remember it
• They can go on every ride
• They can go all day long and not need a break – you might have a harder time keeping up with them, even!

Cons

• The trip may not seem as magical – even if they LOVE Disney, it’s just different from taking a younger child there
• Might be less likely to want to hang out with you the whole time – especially if you have other teens with you

Best Rides and Attractions

Obviously, they’ll probably love any of the rides listed under the Elementary category (and probably many others as well), but here are a few more that this age will more than likely LOVE. Most teens love thrill rides.

• Space Mountain
• Matterhorn Bobsleds
• Guardian’s of the Galaxy

Overall

All in all, there is no right age for everyone – there are so many different age ranges that are blast for different reasons, and I know you can have fun at any age from 0 to 100.

However, it will be a different experience for a Disney vacation going with young children, elementary school kids, and teenagers. It’s all about finding the right age for your family.

One of the best parts is just spending time together and making memories. No matter what age you are, you will do that.

Check the Costume Policy

The first thing you should do in your Galaxy’s Edge planning is consider what you pack. If you are a serious Star Wars fan, you may have to show some restraint in what you wear in the theme park. While costumes are definitely not permitted, there are some exceptions. View the Disneyland Dress Code guidelines or the Walt Disney World costume guidelines to ensure you don’t get turned away at the gate.

Download Disney Play

The experience in Galaxy’s Edge is meant to be immersive in a way that surpasses just the environment. The stage is set for conflict and guests are invited to take their place in the story. The way you do this is by creating a character profile for yourself on the Disney Play app. After you set up your permissions, you will be able to use your device to interact with the park’s story. You’ll contribute as Resistance, First Order, or as a scoundrel.

Pick a Time of Day

Time of day is important in your Galaxy’s Edge planning. Even after the reservation window is lifted, there are different types of experiences to consider.The food and drinks available at Black Spire Outpost change throughout the day. Your Galaxy’s Edge planning should account for the type of dining experience you want and whether or not you want to build your own lightsaber. Supplies run short, so don’t put that experience off. Another neat feature of Galaxy’s Edge is that there is Both a daytime and night time version of Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run.

Budget for Souvenirs and Experiences

The land is essentially a marketplace. The whole place is filled with shops. Two of them include immersive experiences that have a hefty price tag; but even if you don’t want to build a lightsaber, or droids, you will come across some tempting high end merchandise. Prepare yourself ahead of time and budget for the extra expense.

Pick a Starting Point

There are multiple entrances to Galaxy’s Edge that can have an impact on your initial impression of the land. One side is Resistance themed and the other side is First Order themed. Depending on the side you choose on your character profile, I recommend consulting’s your map to start out on the end that best fits your chosen side before venturing further into the world of Batuu.

Plan Your Time

Finally, I recommend that you plan your time prior to visiting Galaxy’s Edge so that you prioritize the experiences you definitely want to have. Allow for some exploration and participation in the interactive games to ensure that you get the full intended experience.
